Importance of Business Writing

All students should use their education at UM to develop effective communications skills which include the ability to write well. Strong business writing allows individuals to communicate professionally and effectively. There are many resources available that provide guidelines designed to assist students as they convey their message, whether it be through letters, emails, memos, business reports or research papers. These resources help students acquire appropriate professional writing skills that will benefit them in their classes and in their work environments.

The Writing Center at UM helps undergraduate and graduate students in all disciplines become effective writers. The staff provides an environment where students can seek assistance with any type of writing project by discussing their writing challenges and receiving feedback on their works in progress. Professional tutors also provide assistance to students needing Upper Division Writing Proficiency Assessment preparation.
