Here are some UM funding assistance options for unpaid internships:

• Office of the Provost, Student Enrichment Fund: worth $500
  • Deadline: October 5 and February 15
• Campus Corp, a branch of AmeriCorp : worth $1,000 to $1,250
  • Deadline: Before you start volunteering
  • Description: If you complete 300 or 450 volunteer hours within one year you will receive an educational award. After you complete the hours you can use the educational award for school expenses including books, tuition, housing, and more.
  • *I (Kathy, your Internship Advisor) did this, and used my educational award to help pay the fees associated with my international internship in Ireland. The award is sent to the school and then the school will use it to pay your tuiton/fees.  Any remaining funds come to you like a normal refund check. Basically, it works like any other scholarship, but you may choose the semester in which to use it.
