Organization Description:
The Run for the Cure Foundation is an organization that funds education and awareness programs throughout Japan. The Foundation is aided by the support of major corporations and organizations that are willing to donate their time, money, goods and energy to fulfill our mission.
Our mission is to increase awareness of the importance of a positive breast health regimen, to strengthen support groups for women in Japan who suffer from breast cancer, and to raise funds to support and encourage the advancement of breast cancer research.
 
Job Description:
·         Interns will be supervised by staff and chair of the relevant committees.
·         We have 2 major events in the fall during breast cancer awareness month. Interns would help with the planning, coordination and execution of such events. Typically, events are organized by a group of English and Japanese speaking staff and volunteers.
·         Summer and Fall interns will be assigned to one of these projects:
  1. Run for the Cure/Walk for Life
    Event joined by over 800 people whom either walk or run the 5 km circuit around the Imperial Palace. We would like the intern to play a major role in doing PR, outreach, and database management.
  2. Pink Ball
    Interns will be asked to help with two committees involved in preparation: entertainment, sponsor solicitation, and ticket sales. Interns will help with record keeping, inventory, and donor relations.
·         Spring and Summer interns will also be asked to assist with funding committee work.
·         The interns will need to work closely with the staff and volunteers to coordinate and provide administrative support before and after events, and represent the organization during planning and execution.
·         Tasks may include:
·         Organizing donation solicitation letters for corporations, organizations, individuals, embassies, etc. Updating the member and donor/donation database
·         Updating the ticket-sales database
·         Providing support on event days
·         Organizing thank-you letters to donors
·         Creating materials for advertising, publicity and outreach
·         Assisting with PR and outreach
·         Main activities: Run for the Cure/Walk for Life and Pink Ball.
·         Three main areas of work:
·         Information dissemination and awareness raising
·         Fundraising events
·         Other project funding activities
 
Qualifications: International Studies, Japanese language and history, sociology, Asia studies Intercultural/multicultural studies women’s health, science, public health
  • General computer skills - Word, Excel, Outlook, Access
  • Excellent English or Japanese writing skills
  • Detail-oriented
  • Experience running events or PR
  • Experience, skill and/or strong interest in community issues, intercultural communication and research
  • Mature, able to work independently
Interest in event coordination, public or women’s health, patient empowerment, community development or policy development is a plus.
 
Language Ability Needed: English fluency with conversational Japanese OR Japanese fluency with conversational English
 
Duration of Internship: April - August (2 terms) or July - August (1 term); July - December (2 terms) or September to December (1 term)
